Now is the best time to clean my boat

- Maybe this is all wrong?
- I told you to clean it now! Where should I put my money?

Biofouling will no longer be a problem for you and your motor yacht.

AQUACLEAN.TECH offers you a simple and incredibly convenient way to clean from biofouling:

  • hull,
  • propellers,
  • steering,
  • all types of bow thrusters,
  • chains,
  • anchors
  • and other underwater surfaces

of your motor yacht from biofouling and other pollution, without risking your biological fouling system. We use an innovative and technologically advanced method of contactless cleaning – jet cleaning with high-pressure water, and we have extensive experience working with various materials and surfaces. Depending on the length of your vessel, the whole process will take not more than 2-3 (maximum 6 hours if your yacht is really log), there’s no need to lift your yachts out by crane, we are cleaning right at your parking place. Your personal presence is optional but not obligatory. We will make a detailed video report on the underwater state of the hull and other parts of your vessel before and after cleaning.

As a gift you will receive:

free inspection of the surface of your hull, underwater parts, and mechanisms.

Cleaning the hull of the boat from biofouling is carried out by a contactless method with the help of sea water supplied under ultrahigh pressure (UHP) to the surface. Since the degree of contamination can be different, as well as in different areas of the same vessel fouling can have a different nature, the diver first selects the level of necessary pressure, starting with the lowest. The outlet pressure is regulated on the shore by an assistant diver, who has a direct contact with the diver. We will definitely use filtration when drawing water, which allows us to remove even the smallest fractions of substances in order to avoid abrasive impacts on the hull of your vessel as much as possible under ultra high pressure conditions. Once again, the essence of our method is the complete absence of abrasives. This approach  will allow us to carry out work on cleaning from biofouling with minimal impact on the hull material of your vessel.

How to prevent Osmosis blisters on your motor yacht hull?

Osmosis is a problem that develops in a glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) hull that is immersed in water long-term. The main symptoms are blisters over the affected motor yacht hull surface, which when opened or pierced give a smell of vinegar or acetic acid. There is no real benefit in attempting to treat small localised areas. The solution lies in removing the outer barrier layer (the gelcoat), drying the underlying laminate and actively removing the chemicals that have drawn moisture through the gelcoat barrier. Finally, reinstating the outer barrier with a new epoxy coating system.

Osmosis leads to inevitable hull destruction.

Destruction leads to significant repair costs.

The absorption of moisture occurs through micro-cracks on the hull, most of which occurs during lifting of the vessel by the crane. The method of underwater hull cleaning with ultra high-pressure water pump carefully removes any types of fouling, without causing any damage to the yacht coating.

Moreover, we 100% guarantee no scratches!

As a result, you have a clean hull and dramatically reduce the financial costs of repairs and works on renewal the antifouling coating.

The dependence of the loss of energy of movement on the increased friction of the wetted surface of the hull and as a result of the occurrence of turbulent flows of a sailing yacht on the presence of biofouling on the hull.

Being an object moving on the surface of the water, a sailing yacht experiences resistance of dual nature: it spends energy to overcome the viscosity of water and to excite oscillations its surface – ship waves. If you carefully observe the moving motor yacht, you can see that some of the water moves with the hull. A yacht, even if its hull is completely smooth, is always accompanied by a layer of water during movement.

At low speeds, the flow of water that flows around the bottom has an orderly movement (this is a laminar flow), and at high speeds – random movement (turbulent flow). The molecules of the liquid directly adjacent to the surface of the moving body, stick to it; As a result, a transition boundary layer is formed next to it, in which a large velocity gradient occurs.

The formula defining the amount of friction resistance has been developed by an English naval architect Mr. William Froude. He found out that the resistance depends on the size of the underwater part of the hull, the state of the outer surface and is proportional to the square of the speed. A longer submerged part has a lower specific resistance as compared to a shorter one. A rougher surface creates more friction than a smoother surface.

On rough surfaces, turbulence increases significantly, and the degree of roughness affects the turbulence exponentially upward. Vortex resistance increases with increasing speed and causes turbulent flows. The greater the degree of turbulence – the more energy must be spent on maintaining speed. And, as we know, the energy expended is fuel consumption. In other words – the less often you clean the underwater part of the vessel from fouling, the more you spend the fuel on the movement of the vessel. Clean more often! Thereby you will receive both a beautiful clean hull and a noticeable increase in dynamic performance.

What happens to the dynamic characteristics of the hull when biofouling begins to appear on it?

The absolutely clean and smooth hull of a sailing yacht, having a modern technological high-gloss coating, still has a certain degree of roughness, albeit quite insignificant. But as soon as the hull enters an aquatic environment filled with living microorganisms, an irreversible process of biofouling instantly starts. The whole spectrum of living creatures of different sizes settles on the hull, ranging from microscopic in the early stages of biofouling, and ending with meter-thick algae on especially neglected yachts. The greater its roughness, the greater the friction of water. Overgrowth of the bottom in the biological conditions of the Adriatic aquatic basin increases friction up to 50% per year. For two years, this figure can reach 100%, that is, the friction of the body against water will have a double indicator. In the case of very heavy fouling, when a hanging beard of shells and small algae is formed on the lower part of the yacht, friction sometimes increases even by three or even 5 times compared to friction with a smooth bottom.

All these losses are irretrievable. Wind energy transmitted by the sails into the energy of movement is expended on the occurrence of turbulence on a rough hull due to increased friction of the hull surface covered with biofouling on the viscous surface of the water.
